Bowel
Are you straining to empty your bowels, or suffering from chronic constipation?
Did you know that constipation is one of the most common medical complaints in Australia? And that 1 in 20 Australians experience faecal incontinence? Both faecal incontinence and constipation can be physically and psychologically debilitating and affect your quality of life. Patients often experience social isolation, embarrassment, and reduced self-esteem.
At Pelvic Fit Melbourne, we are able to provide treatment for the following bowel issues:
Constipation - difficulty with emptying your bowels, usually associated with hard, firm stool consistency
Faecal incontinence - involuntary loss of faeces
Flatulence - involuntary loss of flatus (wind)
Dyssynergic Defecation - difficulty with emptying bowels due to inability to coordinate the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles correctly to evacuate stool. This can often lead to a sensation of incomplete bowel emptying, excessive wiping, or abdominal bloating.
Rectal/ faecal urgency - strong desire to empty bowels with inability to hold on/ defer urge.
Faecal impaction - large build up of firm, dry stool that is "stuck" in the rectum and hard to pass.
Proctalgia - sudden onset of severe pain in the rectum due to spasm of the pelvic floor muscles and/or anal sphincter muscles. The pain can last for a few seconds or minutes, and is described as a stabbing pain like a knife sticking into the rectum
Understanding the cause of your bowel problems is key to providing you with a long-term solution. At Pelvic Fit Melbourne, we will address your current bowel and toileting habits, and provide you with a treatment plan to help manage and/ or overcome your bowel issues.
